Festive Food Bank Awareness Weekend
Posted by David Thompson | 11/12/2014 | Category: Community
Christmas is almost upon us and while we begin to plan and buy all our festive food, there are many of us who will also have to worry about the means of feeding themselves and their families, not only during the Christmas period but every day. In fact, over 900,000 people received help from a foodbank in 2013/14*.
At Central England Co-operative, we are proud to work in partnership with local food banks across our trading area, providing emergency food and making a real difference to all the families and individuals who rely on food banks in our communities.
At the beginning of the year, we hosted a Food Bank Awareness Weekend in our food stores, collecting donations from our customers, including cereal, rice, tinned food and tea. Our most recent Food Bank Awareness Weekend took place in September and was bigger than ever, with thirty stores taking part and collecting in excess of 5,000kg for local food banks in our communities.
Following these successful collection weekends and continual support throughout 2014 to families in crisis, we are happy to announce the following stores will be taking part in more Food Bank Awareness days on Friday (12th) and Saturday (13th) December in time for Christmas, a particularly challenging time for some:
