Colleagues and customers at Central England Co-operative stores and businesses across the Midlands have now raised more than £500,000 to help provide specialist equipment for disabled and terminally ill children.
Newlife Foundation for Disabled Children is Central England Co-operative’s staff-elected charity – and the latest fundraising efforts have brought the total to £519,895 (since May 2012).
Already, 219 children have benefitted, getting equipment like wheelchairs and walkers for mobility, specialist beds and car seats to keep them safe and communication aids so they can tell their parents when they are hungry or in pain.
Newlife CEO Sheila Brown, OBE, said: “The support we have received from Central England Co-operative has been amazing. Its staff and customers have really gone the extra mile to help us help disabled and terminally ill children who might otherwise go without vital equipment.”
Fundraising activities have included sporting challenges like the London Marathon, Three Peaks Challenge and skydiving, cake and craft sales, musical and panto performances, quiz nights and coffee mornings – as well as a range of in-store activities like community fun days, sponsored head shaves, flower arranging demonstrations, raffles and in memoriam days.
