Year One on Midlands Co-operative Graduate Scheme

We've heard from Joanne before at the beginning of her graduate scheme. Here's an update on her story:

Wow - my first year on Midlands Co-operative Graduate Scheme has flown by and I am thoroughly enjoying my experience so far. Within that time, I have completed a six month placement in Retail, which was a great opportunity, as I was able to get involved in the community, network with colleagues across the business, complete a project around our future shoppers and constantly develop myself.

In addition to that, I spent a month at our Distribution Centres in Leicester, which was great to see the start to end process of getting products into our stores, along with completing a synergy project across our whole estate.

From May 2013, I started in Funeralcare on a six month placement, initially, I was quite apprehensive about the challenges I would face personally, however all preconceptions I had, have been diminished and the colleagues I have been working with, have been fantastic.

My current role in Funeralcare, is around achieving a broad understanding of the profession, with this in mind, I have enhanced my commercial awareness of Funeral Services, seen how we operate at Midlands Co-operative, challenged my preferred working style with a procurement project, but from my personal experience one thing is apparent- the passion our colleagues have to ensure every family receives a bespoke service for their loved ones, is exceptional. The client is always at the heart of colleague operations and I am very proud to have had the opportunity to get involved with Funeralcare at Midlands Co-operative.

I finish my Funeral placement in October 2013, then I will be moving into Transport for two months and finally, into our support functions at our Business Support Centre, in January 2014. I am looking forward to the new experiences and challenges, along with working with different colleagues, developing myself further and contributing to our future success.
