Our Prosecco named best of the best when it comes to supermarket fizz

Drinks expert Helena Nicklin has named Co-op Irresistible Prosecco as ’10 out of 10’ and the best when it comes to supermarket fizz.

On the back of National Prosecco Day, our best-selling fizz came top of the class when up against other versions from the likes of Aldi, Tesco, Asda and Lidl.

Helena described our fizz as ‘a classy, drier style of prosecco that’s less frothy and ripe than some. This won’t get sickly thanks to the lower sugar levels and there’s a lovely floral and honeyed note balanced by a cool hint of lime that keeps you coming back for more. Prosecco is made for drinking while young and fresh. Delicious and exceedingly quaffable, this one offers outstanding bubble for your buck’.

Talking about how to choose the best bottle for your taste, she added: “When buying prosecco there are a few things to remember. It has several sweetness levels, so check the detail carefully before popping the cork to find one you will prefer.

“Bottles marked Extra Dry taste sweeter, so if you prefer dry bubbles, pick a Brut style.

“While if you like your fizz fuller-bodied and extra bubbly, then select a Spumante.”

This comes after our rosé, Studio by Miraval Rosé created by megastars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, was named best of the best when it comes to celebrity-created tipples.

The wine, which costs £12 a bottle, is a blend of cinsault, rolle and the lesser-known grape tibouren and is currently only available in the UK.

Expert Helena gave the tipple 10 out of 10 when up against other drinks from the likes of Jon Bon Jovi, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kylie Minogue.
