A busy Central England Co-operative store in Birmingham is soon set to star in a hit daytime soap opera.

Stirchley food store, in Hazelwell Street, will feature in a dramatic episode of BBC show Doctors after being handpicked by television producers.

Scenes were filmed inside and outside the store featuring the stars of the show, but exact details are being kept under wraps until the episodes air.

Jim Cunningham, Store Manager at Stirchley food store, said: “We were delighted for our store to be picked for filming by the BBC.

“Doctors is a show that is made right here in Birmingham and for Central England Co-operative Stirchley Supermarket to be part of the programme is a great honour.

“We cannot wait to see the scenes shot inside and outside the store when they are featured in the show later in the year.”

The soap opera is produced and recorded at the BBC Birmingham Drama Village, in nearby Selly Oak, and airs daily on BBC One.

It is set in the fictional West Midlands town of Letherbridge, described as being near Birmingham, and follows the staff of a GP practice and their families.

This is not the first time that the Stirchley food store has been a star on the television screen.

Last year, it was handpicked to feature in an episode of popular show Twirlywoos.

Twirlywoos is a popular children’s pre-school comedy series from Ragdoll Productions, which encourages youngsters to think for themselves and gain confidence in their own perceptions of the world.

The Stirchley Co-operative store is open from 7am-10pm Monday – Friday, 7am-9pm Saturday and 10am-4pm on a Sunday.

The store offers a wide range of products from everyday necessities to something a little more special. The store offer includes: fresh and local fruit and vegetables, an in-store bakery offering breads and pastries, chilled beers and wines, fresh and frozen product, Truly Irresistible product ranges, a Deli, a café,
