Kind-hearted Central England Co-operative colleagues are holding a week of fund-raising events to help a youngster with a one-in-a-billion chromosome condition after his specialised bike was stolen and vandalised.

The team at Mulbarton Food Store, in Cuckoofield Lane, decided to raise money to help repair or replace Tobias Hill’s bike after learning that his bike had been taken and damaged.

Across this week the store will be hosting a range of fund-raising events including guess the amounts of sweets in a jar and a make a Christmas tree decoration competition.

Store manager Jamie Twell said: “Everyone at Mulbarton Food Store was shocked to hear what had happened to Tobias and his bike.

“We take our role as a retailer in the heart of the community seriously and knew straight away that we wanted to help out.

“Tobias loves his bike and it is the only way that he can get out and about with his father Chris.

“So we are hosting a week-long fund-raising event to help raise some cash to pay to either repair or replace his bike.

“We are now encouraging people from across the area to visit the store and take part in one of our many events to help raise these vital funds.”

Tobias lives with a chromosome condition, which has only recently been discovered, and is thought to affect just one in every billion people.

There are only seven people in the world known to have the condition, which affects his development.

Tobias’ bike can cost between £3,000 and £5,000 and has to be custom-made.

Anyone who would like to support the effort to raise funds Tobias can head into store across this week or find out more details by calling 01508 571348.
