Central England Co-op has donated 50 warm clothing packs to help homeless people in Burton survive the winter weather.

The retailer has linked up with charity Burton and District YMCA to help those in need during the festive season by providing packs made up of hats and scarves.

The accessories have been bought from Newlife the Charity for Disabled Children, which will also be supported through the donation.

In total, the retailer is donating 200 packs to good causes across its trading estate, so they can be given to people who find themselves without shelter over Christmas.

The Society has also been campaigning to encourage its customers and members to donate to local food banks in the run up to Christmas and to actively support those in the most need at this time of year.

The packs of hats and gloves will also be given out in Northamptonshire, Derby and Lowestoft through charities who regularly work with disadvantaged people including Accommodation Concern, Hope Centre and Outreach in the Streets.

Hannah Gallimore, Corporate Responsibility Manager at Central England Co-op, said: “These items will go some way to helping homeless people survive the winter months in and around Burton.”
