Central England Co-op is set to open a new community food store in Eastwood later this year after striking a deal to take over a Sainsbury’s Local site in the Nottinghamshire town.

The retailer has reached an agreement to take over the shop in Nottingham Road which will bring a brand-new store offering food and essentials for the local community. All existing colleagues have been offered the opportunity to transfer to the new shop.

Work is set to begin on site early next month and as a result, the store will close on October 30 while the transformation works take place and it is due to reopen as a Central England Co-op on Friday, 27 November.

Store Manager Rachael Payne said: “We are thrilled to bring a brand-new community food store to the area this November which will include everything people expect from a Central England Co-op store as well as a raft of exciting new features such as a free water refill station, customer seating, phone charging area and much, much more.

“Central England Co-op already has strong links within the Eastwood area and a thriving membership base, so we are delighted to have a food store presence back in the town.

“Our community and membership team offer a range of activities for local schools and organisations such as free healthy eating and Fairtrade workshops, as well as popular member classes and groups.

“Meanwhile in the last three years, our Community Dividend Fund has shared out over £20,000 between 10 good causes to support the Nottinghamshire community.

“We will also be supporting the Salcare Food Bank through an instore collection point and through our food redistribution project with FareShare Midlands, we help a number of local good causes to provide meals to those in need.

“We would like to apologise for the short-term disruption while we work to bring the new store to life, but we can’t wait to welcome this fantastic community to the new store on November 27 and we will have a range of great opening offers available for locals to enjoy.”
