CENTRAL ENGLAND CO-OP SHOPPERS SHOW THE WEATHER DOESN’T STOP THE SUMMER

Central England Co-op is getting into the full swing of summer and new research has revealed that disappointing weather did not stop customers buying seasonal products.

Research carried out by retail data experts HIM in August 2017 showed that 44% of respondents find their food and drink shopping habits change in the summer months, sometimes despite the weather.

Top selling products in the summer, no matter the weather always include milk, bananas and cucumber in the top four.

Barbecues are a staple of the British summer and the key products according to consumers are:

•    Beef burgers
•    Sausages
•    Buns/rolls/ bread
•    Chicken breasts/ drumsticks
•    Salad
•    Beer
•    Sauces
•    Crisps and snacks
•    Wine

Martin Hill, Head of Product and Category at Central England Co-op, said: “The great British summer is a time where anything could happen weather-wise.
“As a result we try to make sure that we have great products in stock across the season. “Research like this means that we can see more of what our customers and members want at given points and make sure we are catering to their needs.

“The weather can be the difference for many retailers, but with our estate of convenience stores and supermarkets, customers can get what products they want, when they need them, whatever the weather.”

Summer sees the arrival of new products that are available in store, ideal for barbecues and picnics. Co-op Piri-Piri Chicken, Korean BBQ Pork and Co-op Middle Eastern Flatbread all bring a taste of global flavours.

Accompaniments include Tapas Skewers, Sweet Potato Falafels, Feta & Spinach Parcels, and Chicken & Chorizo Empanadas, all products that will grace any summer table.

Central England Co-op has over 250 convenience stores and supermarkets over its 16 county trading estate.

As a part of its summer campaign, customers are encouraged to enter a competition to win a £2,000 voucher for a holiday booked through one of its Travel Branches.
