Central England Co-op employees will be swapping their uniforms and work clothes for football kits to support Dementia UK.

The charity match will see staff from the Society’s Lichfield –based head office go up against store colleagues from stores in the surrounding area to raise vital funds for the corporate charity partner.
Lichfield City Football Club will host the match and Central England Co-op is now looking for colleagues, customers and members to support the teams as they battle it out to be crowned the winner at 4.30pm on Sunday, 20 May.

Tickets are £2 on the gate with all proceeds going to Dementia UK. The charity will be use funds towards recruiting more specialist Admiral Nurses, who work with those living with dementia and their loved ones. Admiral Nurses can either see clients on a one to one basis, but Dementia UK also has a dedicated helpline open to all for advice and support on dementia.

Paul Talbot, Stock Analyst at Central England Co-op, and organiser of the event, said: “I wanted to do something that would raise some money for the charity, and I am an avid football fan. I also wanted this to not just be about Central England Co-op, and with Lichfield City Football Club letting us use the ground there is space for people to come along on the day and watch a good game of football while supporting the charity. We are trying to raise as much as we can for this deserving and vital service provided by Dementia UK. We all know someone who has been affected by dementia, and this is something I could do to help.”

Central England Co-op has been raising funds across the Society since July 2017, when it was announced that the retailer had partnered with Dementia UK as its corporate charity. So far, £211,000 has been raised.
