Central England Co-operative has opened the doors to its refurbished food store in Dersingham following a major investment with local schoolchildren helping design a special feature to brighten up the store.

The Lynn Road store has been given a £190,000 makeover to provide its members and customers with an improved shopping experience, while schoolchildren from Dersingham VA Primary and Nursery School have produced a colourful piece of artwork which now adorns the front of the store.

They also produced some festive Christmas decorations which hang proudly from the store’s Christmas tree inside the entrance to the store.

Children from the school were invited along to help cut the ribbon and to see the finished artwork for themselves.

The revamped store also now boasts an updated product range to better reflect customers’ requirements, fresh decoration, a brand new customer toilet, new customer seating inside and outside the store and even ‘pet parking’.

Store Manager Tim Drew said: “Our team has been so excited. The revamp looks fantastic and already customers have been making many positive comments about how it looks.

“I would like to thank our members and customers for their patience during the refurbishment and I hope they enjoy the changes as much as we do.

“All of us here at the Dersingham Food Store are proud to be part of such a great community in Dersingham and it was fantastic to be able to welcome Dersingham VA Primary and Nursery School to be our guests of honour at the opening of our brand new store and to see their fantastic artwork recreated on the store.

“We are looking forward to welcoming customers, new and old, to come and enjoy our Food Store and see the changes for themselves.”

Gayle Platt, Head teacher at Dersingham VA Primary and Nursery School, said the school was delighted to team up with the store on the artwork.

She said: “The children had a great time completing the projects and have been so excited to come down and have a look around the store and see their work proudly displayed.”

The Lynn Road Food Store is open Monday to Saturday from 7am to 9pm and Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

The store has a wide range of products from everyday necessities to something a little more special. The offer includes fresh and local fruit and vegetables, an instore bakery, chilled beers and wines, fresh and frozen product and Irresistible product ranges.

The store also offers an instore bakery, car park, cash machine, Collect Plus, Paypoint, food bank, and Lottery, as well as a lifesaving defibrillator.
