Central England Co-operative opened the doors to its new food store in Kings Norton, West Midlands, by handing 50 lucky shoppers golden tickets – with one walking away with a brand new 49” television.
The new food store, based in a building owned by the Society since 1933 on The Green, offers a wide range of products and services to meet the needs of local residents.
A total of £194k has been spent on the store and fixtures and fittings include the latest in pioneering new energy efficient refrigeration technologies to minimise environmental impact and LED lighting.  The site itself has been redeveloped to include the Central England Co-op store, a small sub-let retail unit, 2 x one bedroom apartments and 1 x two bedroom apartment, with car parking outside.
Nora Morgan revealed that she was amazed when she unwrapped her golden ticket to find out she had won a 49” TV.
Nora said: “I am astonished and delighted, proper delighted. My grandson won’t believe me! I said to my friend in the queue that I never win anything!”
Other golden ticket winners shared a mix of Co-operative gift vouchers, Truly Irresistible Fairtrade chocolate bars, with Kings Norton residents Francesca Grainger winning a Bluetooth speaker and Amanda Conlon winning a soupmaker.
Kings Norton Central England Co-operative Store Manager Rachael Pretty said:
“Our team were so excited to finally allow our members and customers to see our new store. The store looks fantastic and already customers have been making many positive comments about how it looks and the different products and services now available.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank customers for their patience during the renovation of this historic building, it has been long-awaited, but hopefully everyone will enjoy the new store as much as we do.
“All of us here at Kings Norton store are proud to be part of such a great community and are looking forward to welcoming all customers to come and enjoy our new food store.”
