Members of the public are being urged to donate the gift of food during a special festive food bank drive in Leicester this weekend.

Colleagues from the Central England Co-operative Clarendon Park Road Food Store and Membership and Community Council members will be hosting a special Christmas food bank drive from 11am to 5pm on Sunday 4 December as part of the Clarendon Park Christmas Fair.

People are being urged to donate items including oil, sugar, UHT milk, coffee, toiletries, toothpaste and eggs.

Tanya Noon, Member and Community Relations Officer, said: “We have organised this event in association with Action Homeless and would love people to come along and support it.

“The idea behind the event is that people give a gift to the food bank this Christmas to bring a little festive cheer to those in need.”

The Membership and Community Council has also provided financial assistance towards the festival.

Customers and members who would like to donate can do by heading along during the event and placing any items in the specially created food bank collection bins at the store. Tastings of mince pies and mulled wine will also be on offer during the day.
