Eye (Suffolk) Library is delighted after receiving a donation from Central England Co-operative to support their ‘Coding Club’.

A successful Membership and Community Council grant yielded a cheque for the group to purchase three new laptops, which will be used to support local children who attend the Coding Club at the Library.

The up-to-date laptops will support the children in learning and developing new skills to support their interest in computers and to develop their coding skills.

Computer Coding forms part of the National Curriculum and thanks to the grant from Central England Co-operative, the children have a greater chance to enhance their skills.

Bernard Harrison, from the Library Coding Club, said: “The presentation of these laptops gives children without access to a laptop a level playing field and it will also mean that as we have three, there will be less sharing and their learning and developing will progress much quicker.

“We are extremely grateful to Central England Co-operative for this donation.”

Karen Ball, Member and Community Relations Officer, said: “The Co-operative has a long tradition of giving back to the community, and we welcome the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives and education of local children.

“It is really important to have strong links with the local community and I am proud the Eastern Membership and Community Council were able to support the library Coding Club and local children.

“I look forward to hearing how the children get on with their new laptops.”
