People looking to get a foot on the employment ladder have been given a helping hand following a donation from Central England Co-operative.

A grant from the Eastern Membership and Community Council will be used to support people who use the Unemployed Workers Centre, in Great Yarmouth.

The £500 has been used to pay for two new laptops which will allow people to head online to search for jobs and to write and update their CVs.

Steve Scott-Greenard, from the Unemployed Workers Centre, said: “The laptops are such a valuable tool to the service we provide, without them we would not be able to provide such a variety of services.

"I would like to say a huge thank you for the contribution that the Central England Co-Operative has made. It has been invaluable and is truly appreciated.”

The centre is staffed by 20 volunteers and currently offers help and advice to around 500 people in the area.

Karen Ball, Member and Community Relations Officer, said: “The Co-operative has a long tradition of giving back to the community, and we welcome the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives and education of local people.

“It is really important to have strong links with the local community and I am proud the Eastern Membership and Community Council were able to support the
Unemployed Workers Centre, in Great Yarmouth.”
