Four projects in Northamptonshire are celebrating after sharing over £10,000 in the latest payout from Central England Co-operative’s Community Dividend Fund.

Hall Meadow Primary School, Corby Sports Dimensions, Brigstock Pre-School Playgroup, and Studfall Infant School and Nursery were all handed grants, with a total of £52,000 handed out to 26 good causes across 16 counties.

Hall Meadow Primary School has been handed the maximum grant of £5,000 and will use the cash to pay for a brand new floor which will benefit pupils and the wider area as the hall is now regularly being used as a community space.

Karlene Knight, from the school, said: “The school is absolutely delighted to have been awarded the grant.

“Schools are always struggling for funds so this money is going to make such a huge difference.

“The money will be used to replace the floor in the school hall which is in a poor condition and in desperate need of replacement.

“A new floor will provide a cleaner more hygienic and pleasurable environment for the children to enjoy and also for the wider community and future generations.”

A total of £2,500 was handed to Corby Sports Dimensions for new electrical appliances to help support new breakfast and after school clubs at St Brendan’s Primary
School for children aged five to 11 years.

Brigstock Pre-School Playgroup will use £1,800 for a new storage shed to store toys in after the current shed was deemed unfit for purpose.

A new cookery club for children will be launched with the £1,420 donated to Studfall Infant School and Nursery.

The new club will aim to teach the children valuable life skills about making healthy food from basic ingredients.

Sharyn Hackett, School Business Manager, said: “We were delighted to receive the funding award. “This money will allow us to run an after school cookery club for our children. The children will learn life skills relating to healthy eating and cooking food from basic cupboard ingredients in a fun, safe environment.

“Without this Community Dividend Fund grant to purchase the set up equipment, we would not be able to give the children this lovely opportunity.”

Grants of between £100 and £5,000 are handed out every three months to a wide range of applicants.

The fund guarantees that at least one per cent of the Society’s trading profit is reinvested in local communities in a bid to help projects to thrive across its trading area of
16 counties from the Midlands to the east coast.

Martyn Cheatle, Chief Executive of Central England Co-operative, said: “I would like to urge all of our members to get in touch and put forward a community cause close to their heart for the Community Dividend scheme.”

People can apply for funding by visiting https://communities.centralengland.coop/ or heading in store to pick up an application form.

Potential applicants have to have been a Central England Co-operative member for six months, the project should be in the trading area of a Central England Co-operative store and all applications will need a referee.
