Two projects in Northamptonshire are celebrating after sharing over £2,000 in the latest payout from Central England Co-operative’s Community Dividend Fund.

Raunds Town Cricket Club and 23rd Kettering Clover Hill Scouts were handed grants, with a total of £50,000 handed out to 32 good causes across 16 counties.

Raunds Town Cricket Club has been handed £2,000 to help build  new facilities that will act as a toilet for people with disabilities and a shower for female players.

Members of 23rd Kettering Clover Hill Scouts will soon be able to eat meals in luxury when out camping thanks to a near £1,000 grant for a new mess tent.

Claire Lindsay, head of fundraising and secretary at 23rd Kettering Clover Hill Scouts, said: “We would like to give a huge thanks to the Central England Cop-operative for their very kind and generous donation of £950 to enable us to purchase a brand new mess tent.

“Our group is less than two years old and has to rely on its own fundraising to purchase equipment that enables us to give the best opportunities that we can to the young people in our group.

“We are so grateful to Central England Cop-operative for enabling us to purchase this equipment, which will make a huge difference to our camping weekends.”

Grants of between £100 and £5,000 are handed out every three months to a wide range of applicants.

The fund guarantees that at least one per cent of the Society’s trading profit is reinvested in local communities in a bid to help projects to thrive across its trading area of 16 counties from the Midlands to the east coast.

Martyn Cheatle, Chief Executive of Central England Co-operative, said: “I would like to urge all of our members to get in touch and put forward a community cause close to their heart for the Community Dividend scheme.”
