Leicester distribution hub gets a snazzy canteen upgrade

Over 300 workers at the Leicester distribution base of a major co-operative are enjoying breakfast, dinner and tea in spruced up surroundings following a major investment.

Major improvement works have taken place at Central England Co-operative’s Food Distribution Centre and Chilled Distribution Centre, both based in Scudamore Road, to improve colleague canteen areas.

Hundreds of workers work across the sites 24-7, 364 days a year to ensure that over 40 stores in Leicester and hundreds more across 16 counties are stocked with everything from chocolate to fresh fruit.

The canteen at the 120,000 sq ft Food Distribution Centre has had a range of improvements including new flooring, furniture, recycling banks, and energy saving LED lighting.

Down the road at the 42,000 sq ft Chilled Distribution Centre, the canteen has been expanded so more people can relax and refuel at the same time as well as new fridges and vending machines being installed.

Both canteens have also been given a lick of paint and now feature stunning murals on the walls.

Robin Farrell, Head of Distribution and Logistics at Central England Co-operative, said: “Our team of dedicated and hard-working colleagues are committed to working around the clock to ensure our customers and members get exactly what they need when they head into our stores.

“This work to improve our canteens has breathed new life into both areas and offers a great place for colleagues to unwind, relax and eat during their downtime.”
