Central England Co-operative has revealed some of its best-selling summer lines as customers get to stock up in 2017.

New research conducted by the Society involving over 200 food stores spread across 16 counties has found the best-selling items across the summer months in 2016 as well as the best sellers on the hottest day of the year.

Co-operative Strawberries were the most popular item during the heat of last summer, with a range of salad items helping to fill out the top 10 as people altered their eating habits to cope with the rising temperatures.

On the hottest day of last year (August 16), customers and members picked out tomatoes, salad, still water and ice cubes to help in their battle with the heat.

The rest of the summer months followed a similar pattern with fruit, vegetable and salad items making up 80 per cent of shoppers baskets during this time.

However, there were some surprise items found as people headed through the tills including Irresistible croissants, energy drinks and chocolate for children.

Customers heading into Central England Co-operative stores this summer will be able to pick up a range of products such as British strawberries (£2 for 400g), Irresistible British Strawberries (£2 for 300g) or a large packet of British strawberries (£3 for 600g).

A range of choc ices, frozen lollies and local brands can be picked up for £1 and an expanded range of beers, wines and spirits can now be found in store.
