Being right at the heart of the community is a key part of the ethos of Central England Co-operative.

Across East Staffordshire and South Derbyshire, the Society already has dozens of stores and funeral homes with another new and innovative site now being added to that ever expanding list.

Funeralcare bosses have officially cut the ribbon on the funeral home, which is based in The Precinct, Main Street, Stretton, after investing nearly £100,000 in the new venture.

The new home offers a vastly superior look and feel for families, in a convenient location in the middle of a thriving community and is also situated close to two of the Society’s food stores.

Funeral Director Jenny Broster said: “This is a very exciting time for my team and we are proud to be part of the community in Burton.

“Our first priority is to enhance memories and love for all of our families and we are very pleased to offer that in Stretton with our new funeral home.

“We feel it reflects our commitment to providing excellent standards of care for our families during their time of bereavement.”

In addition to arranging funerals, Jenny and her team are also able to offer advice on floral tributes, monumental masonry, funeral stationery, pre-paid funeral plans and probate advice.  The team can be contacted on 01283 565207.

The latest addition comes after the Society invested over £15 million and created dozens of jobs as part of ongoing efforts to improve the experience of customers during 2017 – with nearly £1 million spent across Burton and South Derbyshire.

Throughout the year, Central England Co-op opened eight new food stores and five new funeral homes as well as relaunching over 15 funeral sites and over 20 convenience stores.

In Burton and South Derbyshire, it has opened a brand new food store, revamped two others and also refurbished a funeral home - creating dozens of jobs and spending £1,052,000 in the process.

Members and customers have already been flocking to the new site in Main Street, Measham, to take a closer look at the new fixtures and fittings including the latest in pioneering new energy efficient refrigeration technologies to minimise environmental impact and LED lighting.

Other sites to have received investment include food stores in Stapenhill and Fradley and Ward and Brewin Funeral Home, in Swadlincote.

Anyone who visited a new store on launch day would have taken part in a special Golden Ticket Giveaway, which saw 500 people walk away with prizes ranging from 50” televisions to Co-op vouchers.

Measham Central England Co-operative Store Manager Donna Jones said:  “Our team were so excited to finally allow our members and customers to see our new store.

“All of us here at Measham store are proud to be part of such a great community.”

The work throughout the year has been part of an ambitious food store and funeral home development programme, with further investment planned during the next 12 months.

Customers and members will also be able to enjoy a range of community benefits as a result of the Society’s investment,

Last year, thousands of pounds were handed out to groups in the city from Central England Co-operative’s Community Dividend Fund.

A total of 122 groups shared over £200,000 during 2017. In Burton and South Derbyshire, seven groups shared over £14,000.
