Summer is here and holidaying in the UK is growing in popularity1.The UK looks set to continue to be a popular destination in 2019, with 59% of people planning a domestic break2, but some people are taking the ’staycation‘ to the next level and holidaying in their own home.

A familiar bed and surroundings to relax in and the neglected barbecue waiting in the garden can be the ingredients for a great, budget and environmentally-friendly break. Follow our guide to be sure of a memorable ’homecation’.

Sampling new things is part of a holiday, so why not bring some colour to your plate with Irresistible Pea and Pancetta Cappallacci (£3.20, 250g), or a new cuisine such as Co-op Moroccan Chicken Cous Cous (£2.95, 208g)?

Central England Co-op has some great deals on Fairtrade wine to enjoy at home including Chardonnay, Shiraz or Sauvignon Blanc on offer at just £53. Pick up the perfect accompaniment of the award-winning Co-op Irresistible Sea Salt and Chardonnay Nuts (£2.75, 200g).

Preparation is also key on the cleaning front. Spruce up your home the week before to avoid getting distracted by everyday chores while you relax. Why not add some flowers and candles to make it feel extra special?

Speaking of candles, if you look forward to a spa treat on your hols, recreate it at home with some relaxing bath and shower products and magazines, all available at your local Central England Co-op.

Starting the day right (after a nice lie in) is a measure of a good break for many, so pop some quality sausages, bacon, free range eggs, freshly-baked bread or croissants from our in-store bakery, juice and some great quality Fairtrade tea or coffee in your basket at the start of your break and cook up a late breakfast to set you up for a relaxing day.

Ice creams are a staple holiday item, so stock up on some refreshingly different ice cream treats including the new single Rainbow Uni-Cone (£1, 135ml), or Co-op Watermelon Lollies (£2, 270g). Outdoor toys will help to keep children entertained and a range can be picked up at your local store throughout the summer. Round off your homecation with a barbecue and pop on some healthy Co-op Salmon Fillets (£4 for 220g, or buy 2 for £7 or 3 for £10) or Smokehouse BBQ Chicken Drumsticks (£3.20, 350g or 2 for £4 until 6 August), accompanied by salads, cold meats, and cottage cheese from our chilled range.
