Three projects aimed at supporting young people in Cambridgeshire are celebrating after sharing over £3,000 in the latest payout from Central England Co-operative’s Community Dividend Fund.

Stilton Church of England Primary School, the Underground Youth Club and Whittlesey Warriors Netball Club were all handed grants, with a total of £57,000 handed out to 34 good causes across 16 counties.

The Undergound Youth Club, based in King’s Cliffe, Peterborough, will spend £1,590 paying for a range of new equipment ranging from pool tables to air hockey to keep youngsters aged seven to 18 entertained.

A total of £1,000 was donated to Stilton Church of England Primary School, in Peterborough, to support a project aimed at creating an outdoor space for youngsters to play and learn in.

The money will be spent to buy a range of items including a special Wendy house.

Budding young athletes will soon take to the court in brand new uniforms after Whittlesey Warriors Netball Club received £500 from the Community Dividend Fund.

Mel Barkess, club manager, said: “We are so happy to be granted this money as it will enable us to be able to provide our young netball ladies with club netball dresses.

“Our young ladies will now be able to represent our club in the youth league wearing our club dresses and feel complete members of our club.”

Grants of between £100 and £5,000 are handed out every three months to a wide range of applicants.

The fund guarantees that at least one per cent of the Society’s trading profit is reinvested in local communities in a bid to help projects to thrive across its trading area of 16 counties from the Midlands to the east coast.

Martyn Cheatle, Chief Executive of Central England Co-operative, said: “I would like to urge all of our members to get in touch and put forward a community cause close to their heart for the Community Dividend scheme.”
