Two Peterborough groups handed an early Christmas present in the shape of £1,000

Two groups in Peterborough have unwrapped an early Christmas present after sharing over £1,000 in the latest payout from Central England Co-operative’s Community Dividend Fund.
Two projects from across the area shared the festive funding boost of £1,300, with a total of £42,555 handed out to 26 good causes across 16 counties.
Friends of Glapthorn School, based in Oundle, were handed £1,000 to pay for playground equipment.
The school applied for funding after extending to accommodate older pupils. The new equipment will be used to help youngsters aged 9 to 12 enjoy the playground.
Oundle Music Festival has been handed £300 to pay for a new photocopier. This vital piece of equipment is at the centre of all things that the organisers do and a replacement was needed after an older model outlived its use.
Katherine Towns, Head teacher at Glapthorn Primary School, said: “We are delighted to have received the grant and our school council is currently busy deciding which playground markings they are going to get with the money. Rejuvenating the playground markings is part of a big project to improve our school grounds as we have expanded to become a primary school. Our old playground markings have got very worn and I know the children will be delighted with some new ones to enjoy at playtimes.”
Grants of between £100 and £5,000 are handed out every three months to a wide range of applicants.
The fund guarantees that at least one per cent of the Society’s trading profit is reinvested in local communities in a bid to help projects to thrive across its trading area of 16 counties from the Midlands to the east coast.
Martyn Cheatle, Chief Executive of Central England Co-operative, said: “I would like to urge all of our members to get in touch and put forward a community cause close to their heart for the Community Dividend scheme.”

Potential applicants have to have been a Central England Co-operative member for six months, the project should be in the trading area of a Central England Co-operative store and all applications will need a referee.
