A Nottingham coffin manufacturer is continuing its efforts to lead the way in sustainable practices by installing an eco-friendly boiler.

Terry Smiths coffin factory, which is based in Huthwaite, has recently taken delivery of a new biomass boiler in a project which has cost £500,000.

The new innovation will use recycled wood to heat the entire site in a move designed to reduce levels of waste being sent to landfill and cut the carbon footprint of the factory.

Luke Olly, Energy Efficiency Lead, said: “As a responsible business, we are committed to minimising our impact on the environment.

“The installation of the biomass boiler is a key part of our Corporate Responsibility strategy and enhancing our eco credentials.

“The new system will improve working conditions for colleagues, reduce waste to landfill and cut our carbon footprint.

“It will also bring in around £70,000 worth of income annually as part of the Government’s renewable heating initiative.

“We are dedicated to making a real difference and being environmentally responsible plays an important part in our overall success.”
